Frimpong move opens up right-back position

And so it’s proven so far this season with the Dutchman now being utilised more as an attacking weapon by Arne Slot in recent weeks.

Bradley meanwhile is enduring a nightmare spell - missing games through small injuries and suspension before the hammer blow he suffered against Arsenal.

The 22-year-old is not expected to play again until next season - blowing a hole in Liverpool’s right-back spot.

We have already seen players like Joe Gomez and Dominik Szoboszlai fill in at right-back this season while there are increasing calls for Calvin Ramsay to be given a regular run-out.

Trusted Liverpool source Paul Joyce writing in the Times now states that a new right-back is likely to be signed in the off-season once the future of Federico Chiesa is sorted.

Vanderson, Palestra, Fernandes and Freeman linked

The Italian is expected to depart for a new team in Serie A with Frimpong leaving his right-back duties behind for good and becoming an outright attacking option.

“If Jeremie Frimpong is earmarked for one of those two slots, then Liverpool surely require a right back,” his report reads.

Doing so would leave the Reds with only Bradley and Gomez - out of contract in 2027 - as their senior right-back options.

There is no indication right now on who could come into the club but Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Vanderson of Monaco, Martim Fernandes at Porto, Marco Palestra of Cagliari and Orlando City’s Alex Freeman.

One thing is for sure and it’s that the Reds’ decision-makers have not ensured a seamless transition from Trent. They will need to try again next summer upon Frimpong’s “promotion” to winger on a full-time basis.
