A year ago, Tom Bischof transferred from TSG Hoffenheim to FC Bayern. At the time, the versatile young player joined the record champions upon the expiration of his contract. After a solid season, he’s now ready to go all out.
And he’s already laid out a plan to do so. In his first season, Bischof frequently played as a left back, but he’s now being deployed much more often in midfield, which is also his natural position.
After a year of settling in, his goals for his second season with FCB are now even higher. Bischof also shared this in an interview with the club’s member magazine, “51.”
Unlike the national team players, the 21-year-old completed the entire preseason. Bischof wasn’t selected for the World Cup and had the summer off. That can actually be an advantage. “Yes, of course. I saw the long break as an opportunity. I had a clearly defined plan with FC Bayern’s athletic trainers and am also working with a personal coach—it was important to me that everyone knew exactly who was doing what,” the player explained.

Bischof went on to explain how he worked on his fitness over the summer: “I had to push myself pretty hard a few times while on vacation. It was intense, but not just hard—it was also scientifically guided. You need a mix of both. Pushing yourself to the limit and overcoming your inner slacker feels good.”
Meanwhile, Bischof can hardly wait for the season to start with exciting opening matches against BVB and VfB Stuttgart in the Super Cup and the Bundesliga. “It’s not going to be a walk in the park for us anyway—the coach makes sure of that. That’s why it’s good that things are kicking off right away. I think every player would rather play games than just train all the time. And that we’re facing Dortmund and Stuttgart right off the bat? I think that’s great! We’ll be ready,” said the 21-year-old.
