Athos de Andrade Figueira Neves has been appointed judicial interventor of Vasco SAF and will not involve himself in sporting decisions, leaving coach and player negotiations to the club’s executives.

His nomination follows a court refusal to reconsider the intervention, Globo.com reports. Neves’s remit centres on governance, accounting and the flow of information across the company’s bodies.

He replaces Samantha Mendes Longo, who resigned after initially being appointed by the court. The case is now overseen by judge Simone Gastesi Chevrand, who has not imposed any veto on a possible sale of the SAF and did not rule out a gradual return of former council members.

Her order tasks the interventor with steering management back to those elected at CRVG, or taking steps to convene a deliberative assembly for a new administration.

Neves is a partner at Neves, Figueiredo, Cerqueira e Souza Advogados, a firm specialising in corporate insolvency, including judicial recovery and bankruptcy. Unlike Longo, a former CBF director, he has no prior role in the sports sector and has worked on major restructuring cases at the Rio de Janeiro state court.

He has pledged transparency, dialogue and responsibility, is preparing an action plan and arranging initial meetings with stakeholders. Further updates are expected as the work progresses.
