Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End should consider moves for Wrexham's Davis Keillor-Dunn before the end of the summer window

Davis Keillor-Dunn has not had the spell he had hoped he would at Wrexham following his move from Barnsley in January 2026, as Football League World has taken a look at two clubs that should look to sign the forward before this summer's deadline.

Wrexham’s ambition to become a Premier League club as soon as possible has been on display for all to see ever since the takeover from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney back in early 2021, and that hasn’t changed this summer.

Danny Imray has joined from Crystal Palace for around £5 million, Ben Whiteman from Preston North End for around £3 million, and Anthony Patterson from Sunderland for roughly £8 million, whilst the Welsh outfit are plotting a move for Norwegian defender Henrik Falchener for a fee in excess of £10 million.

Now, Phil Parkinson is looking to further reinforce his attacking options with the addition of Lyon attacking-midfielder and Czech Republic international Pavel Šulc, according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke.

Sulc, 25, scored 11 and grabbed three assists in 27 Ligue 1 games last season, as Wrexham are plotting their most ambitious move yet, something that current forward Davis Keillor-Dunn will hate.

Keillor-Dunn, 28, joined Wrexham from Barnsley just over six months ago in the most recent winter window, but has struggled to make an impact at the Racecourse Ground since.

The Englishman has been limited to just nine substitute appearances in all competitions, failing to start a single match since his arrival, with the likes of Josh Windass, Nathan Broadhead, Bailey Cadamarteri, Sam Smith, and Kieffer Moore as competition.

Despite his lack of minutes in North Wales, Keillor-Dunn’s record in League One and League Two remains exceptional, and simply cannot be shrugged off.

The former Mansfield Town hitman could be on his way out of Wrexham before the deadline, especially if a deal for Sulc is completed, as FLW take a look at two clubs that should consider a move for the forward in the next week or so.

Bolton Wanderers’s return to the Championship has been excellent, winning their season opener at home to Preston North End, before a Jack Bonham masterclass earned Steven Schumacher’s side a 0-0 draw away to Queen’s Park Rangers last weekend.

Schumacher has been crying out for attacking additions this summer, and though Gaizka Larrazabal and Ryan Hardie will help to reinforce things up top, more is needed to sustain a serious challenge to avoid relegation, especially following the departures of Amario Cozier-Duberry, Mason Burstow, Johnny Kenny, and Marcus Forss.

Gent striker Max Dean has been heavily linked with a move, with Football League World having previously exclusively revealed Championship rivals Millwall’s interest in the forward, as that deal appears to have gone cold for now.

Keillor-Dunn, at 28, would be an excellent alternative for Dean, or even as another option up top for Schumacher, having proven to know where the back of the net is in the lower leagues of the pyramid.

Capable of operating as a loan centre-forward or anywhere else across the final third, the Englishman’s versatility will also surely provide another attractive reason for Schumacher to want to bring him to the Toughsheet Community Stadium before the deadline.

Preston North End join Stoke City, Norwich City, and Lincoln City as the only remaining sides in the division yet to pick up a single point this season, and heading into the final week of the window, the Lilywhites have a lot of work to do.

All four of their strikers from last season, namely Daniel Jebbison, Lewis Dobbin, Michael Smith, and Milutin Osmajic, are no longer at the club, with the latter having agreed a deal to join Italian side Genoa.

Jusef Erabi and Delano Burgzorg have arrived to add another option up top, though head coach Paul Heckingbottom would be remiss to not add another forward or two to their ranks before the deadline.

Keillor-Dunn, having struggled for minutes at Wrexham, would surely leap at the chance to join Preston this summer, where he would be given the opportunity to make a name for himself in the Championship and prove Wrexham wrong.

Failure to oversee a strong end to the window would only increase the chances of Preston being drawn into a relegation battle, as the addition of Keillor-Dunn would ensure they are in much stronger nick during the first half of the season.
