Newcastle United’s links to South American duo Andrey Santos and Máximo Perrone will “become clearer” in January as the club look to add the young talents to Eddie Howe’s side at St. James’ Park, according to journalistDean Jones.
The Magpies are scouring the globe for some of the world’s top young talent ahead of the winter transfer market.
According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle are expected to move for Santos in January, with the Brazilian currently playing for Vasco da Gama in his homeland.
The same report states that despite the fact the 18-year-old is currently contracted to the South American club until 2027, it is expected he will leave for Europe in the next year, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting the midfielder could be worth more than £25m.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie told GiveMeSport last month that PIF were interested in bringing the youngster to St. James’ Park as the club looks to secure some of the best young talents the planet has to offer.
Meanwhile, Diario Popular in Argentina has suggested that Newcastle are in talks with Velez over a potential £12m deal for 19-year-old Perrone in January.
The deal is likely to take place with the starlet’s contract at the Argentine club expiring in 2023, with the South American side unlikely to want to let the young talent leave for nothing.
And Jones believes that the situation regarding the duo will become much clearer once the January transfer window opens up.
Jones told GiveMeSport: “There are other people they’re looking at. Andrey Santos has been mentioned. Maximo Perrone is somebody on their radar too. I think this is certainly a situation that will become clearer as we get closer to January.”

Securing the signings of both Santos and Perrone seems to fit in with Newcastle’s policy of signing young players outside of Europe, with the Magpies already set to add 18-year-old Central Coast Mariners and Australia striker Garang Kuol to their squad in January.
Santos has made 37 appearances for Vasco da Gama since 2021, scoring eight goals in that time according to Transfermarkt, whilst Perrone has 33 appearances to his name, scoring three goals and providing two assists according to the same stats provider, suggesting that the pair have got a decent amount of experience ahead of a move to Tyneside.
However, Howe and PIF may look to try and sanction a European loan move for the pair for them to build up their experience on the continent ahead of what they hope will be long and successful careers with Newcastle.
