Newcastle United edged past Bournemouth in a dramatic FA Cup third-round tie at St. James’ Park, winning 7-6 on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

The first half was cagey, with chances limited. Newcastle’s Yoane Wissa had an early opportunity saved by Bournemouth keeper Djordje Petrovic, while Alex Scott fired a half-volley just over the bar.

Despite controlling possession, the Magpies couldn’t break through before halftime.

The hosts opened the scoring early in the second half. Woltemade played a perfect pass to Harvey Barnes, who finished with composure for his tenth goal of the season.

The Cherries responded in the 60th minute, Alex Scott equalising before David Brooks put the visitors ahead with a swift counter-attack strike.

In stoppage time, Bournemouth conceded a penalty after Sandro Tonali was fouled in the box. Anthony Gordon calmly converted to level the score and force extra time.

Extra time saw Barnes score his second, only for Marcus Tavernier to level for Bournemouth in the 122nd minute, sending the game to a penalty shootout. Newcastle keeper Aaron Ramsdale emerged as the hero, saving three spot-kicks, helping the Magpies clinch the shootout 7-6.
