Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle has provided a positive update on Anthony Elanga after the winger was taken off on a stretcher during their 2-1 win over Valencia.

Elanga was forced off after suffering the injury during the pre-season victory, however Jaissle has revealed the initial assessment suggests the problem is not serious.

“It seems to be not bad, so we are pleased,” Jaissle said.

“I hope it’s true, then he can start again next week.

“I was in fear, definitely, but now I’m more relaxed as the medical department is showing almost green lights, and there’s nothing serious.”

Yoane Wissa scored twice as Newcastle beat the Spanish side in Jaissle’s first game in charge since taking over.
