Newcastle bounce back with win over Hull City | OneFootball

Newcastle United bounced back from Monday’s heavy defeat at Leeds United by edging past Hull City 2-1 at St James’ Park, ending the visitors’ unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

The hosts needed just three minutes to take control. Harvey Barnes slipped the ball through to Joe Willock, who took a touch before firing into the near corner.

Barnes was involved again four minutes later, driving forward before finding Lewis Hall, whose low finish across goal doubled Newcastle’s advantage.

Hull struggled to respond but were handed a huge opportunity shortly before the interval when Sorba Thomas brought down Jacob Murphy inside the area. Yoane Wissa stepped up from the spot, only for Konstantinos Tzolakis to guess correctly and make an important save.

The visitors looked far more dangerous after the restart and eventually halved the deficit in the 67th minute. Mohamed Belloumi picked out substitute Mohamed-Ali Cho, who powered a low strike in off the post less than five minutes after coming on.

Hull pushed hard for an equaliser and came close through Belloumi, but Lukas Hornicek produced an excellent save to protect Newcastle’s lead. Tim Iroegbunam also fired over from close range as the pressure increased.

Newcastle held firm to secure three points and extend their unbeaten home run to six matches, while Hull suffered their first league defeat of the campaign.
