Newcastle United defender Alex Murphy will spend the 2026/27 campaign on loan in the German second tier.

Murphy has been slowly blooded into the Newcastle first team since his arrival from Galway United in 2022. After spending the 2024/25 season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, the Republic of Ireland youth international played six times for the Magpies last season.

Now, the 22-year-old has joined FC Kaiserslautern for the current campaign to get more regular game time.

"I’m very happy to be here," Murphy said about the move.

"FC Kaiserslautern is a great club, and I can’t wait to play my first game in this incredible stadium. I want to take the next steps in my development here and be as successful as possible with the team this season."
