Newcastle United are braced for a potential bidding war over wantaway midfielder Sandro Tonali.

However, The Times reports that the Magpies will only sanction a summer exit if they receive offers over £100 million.

After paying around £61m to bring the midfielder in from AC Milan, Newcastle are keen to make a ‘hefty profit’ on him this summer.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has previously waxed lyrical about Tonali, claiming he fell ‘in love’ while watching him on the pitch.

However, with the Magpies unable to offer Champions League football next season, Tonali looks primed to jump ship this summer, and several clubs want to sign him.

Tonali has been offered to Arsenal and Manchester United, while Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to join the race.

While Spurs haven’t made direct contact with Newcastle, they’re believed to have held discussions with the player’s representatives.

Tonali is still considered a key part of Howe’s plans, but speculation surrounding his future continues to gather pace ahead of what could be a pivotal transfer window for the Magpies.

Tottenham are exploring a move at the behest of new manager Roberto De Zerbi, but any approach would likely require a significant financial commitment.

Tonali is still under a long-term contract at Newcastle. He signed an extension earlier this year, keeping him at St James’ Park until 2029, with the option of an additional season.

The Italian made 53 appearances across all competitions last term, chipping in with three goals and seven assists as Newcastle finished in the bottom half of the table.

The Magpies have already cashed in on Anthony Gordon, who has joined Barcelona. Tonali could be the next to leave, while Joe Willock and Valentino Livramento are also attracting attention.
