Newcastle United have explored a deal to sign AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, according to Calciomercato.

The Magpies have been linked to the English star for some time, and this summer might be the perfect time to make a concrete move.

Newcastle could use another defenders as Sven Botman and Malick Thiaw have had their fair share of injury setbacks.

He is available for €15 million, making him a very viable option for Newcastle as they look to give new boss Matthias Jaissle a solid squad for the 2026/27 campaign.

Tomori has European and Premier League experience that Newcastle could use as they navigate what could be a very difficult campaign following some turbulent changes.

Coventry City have also made enquiries about Tomori following their return to the Premier League. Juventus are also interested, but Jhon Lucumi is their first choice.

The coast is seemingly clear for Newcastle to make their move and bring the 28-year-old to St James’ Park after tracking his progress for years.

Newcastle can do better than Tomori

Newcastle should be aiming higher than Tomori.

While he would add experience and depth, his recent form hardly makes him an obvious upgrade on what they already have.

Milan are open to moving him on for a relatively modest fee. That should be a red flag for Newcastle.

If Newcastle are serious about taking the next step under Jaissle, they should be targeting a centre-back with greater upside.

They should not be settling for a player his current club are prepared to sacrifice.
