Sorloth, who joined Atletico in 2024 following a prolific spell with Villarreal, has established himself as a reliable goalscorer in La Liga.

The 30-year-old striker netted 20 goals in 54 games across all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign, marking his third consecutive 20-goal season.

Standing at 1.95 metres, his aerial prowess, hold-up play, and clinical finishing in the box make him the archetypal “number nine”—qualities that could greatly benefit Eddie Howe, particularly when his side are facing organised, low blocks in the Premier League.

Despite his manager admitting that he ‘has something special’, Sorloth has faced strong competition for minutes in Madrid, often sharing playing time or operating behind high-profile names such as Julian Alvarez in the pecking order.

This dynamic has fuelled transfer speculation, with Atletico reportedly open to a sale to raise funds for reinforcements.

Newcastle face competition from Premier League rivals Fulham, Sunderland, and Everton. The prospect of returning to England could appeal to Sorloth, who previously had a brief spell with Crystal Palace.

Newcastle have stepped up their transfer activity this summer, having parted ways with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.

The Tyneside-based outfit have agreed a deal to sign Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim and have intensified their pursuit of Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi, who is currently impressing at the World Cup with Switzerland.
