Newcastle United are interested in signing RB Leipzig duo Dominik Szoboszlai and Amadou Haidara.
According to Sky Sport Germany reporter Philipp Hinze, Newcastle have sent scouts to watch both players on several occasions and could act on their interest this summer.
Haidara was subject to interest from a Premier League club in the January transfer window, with Brighton & Hove Albion launching a late bid for his services.
The Seagulls were looking to recruit the 25-year-old at the dying embers of the winter market when interest in Moises Caicedo from Chelsea and Arsenal intensified.
However, the German outfit rebuffed their interest amid fears they would have struggled to replace the former RB Salzburg man on short notice.
Haidara could yet ply his trade in the English top flight from next season, with Newcastle now keen on securing his services this summer.
The Mali international has struggled to establish himself in Marco Rose’s side, starting just 11 of his 27 Bundesliga appearances this term, chipping in with two goals and an assist.
Newcastle are looking to sign a new defensive midfielder, and Haidara fits the bill, but according to the report, the Magpies are more interested in his teammate Szoboszlai.
The 22-year-old has been a revelation for Die Roten Bullen this season, scoring seven goals and providing 13 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.
He has been integral to Leipzig’s push for a top-four finish and scored twice in the 5-1 rout against Freiburg to send his side to the DFB Pokal final.
Newcastle are on course to finish in the Champions League places, which will significantly boost their summer spending power.
Leipzig may be powerless to resist a summer raid from the Tyneside club, especially if they finish outside the top-four places, with the Germans currently sitting fifth in the Bundesliga rankings.
