Newcastle ‘join’ Lazio in race for Inter’s Frattesi after Stanković snub

Newcastle have entered the hunt for Davide Frattesi, joining Lazio in pursuit of the Inter midfielder after an approach for Aleksandar Stanković was rejected. Corriere dello Sport reports that Inter then directed the Magpies towards Frattesi, valued at around €25m, and that an exit now looks close to certain.

Newcastle are in the market for a midfielder following the departure of Bruno Guimarães. A sale would also help Inter fund their long-standing push for Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, the target preferred by Cristian Chivu, for whom space must be created first.

Lazio remain keen but from a weaker position. They could only realistically structure a loan, potentially with a conditional obligation to buy and a significant sell-on, which leaves them behind a club able to table a permanent deal.

Frattesi is understood to be open to a first move to the Premier League.

Stanković, brought back from Club Brugge via a buy-back clause and admired by several clubs, is going nowhere. Inter are determined to keep him and he wants to stay and compete for his place at San Siro.

Inter’s hierarchy are also seeking an exit for Kristjan Asllani before the window shuts, and a loan for Yanis Massolin.
