Journalist Liam Kennedy reckons that Allan Saint-Maximin's lack of consistency is the reason he's not attracted interest from bigger clubs.

Newcastle are still winless in the Premier League this season, but the Frenchman has been one of few positives so far.

How has Saint-Maximin performed this season?

Newcastle are still waiting to kick-start their campaign following just three points from a possible 21 from their opening seven matches.

But whilst the team are yet to hit top form overall, Saint-Maximin is suffering from anything but, and his WhoScored rating epitomises that.

His season rating of 7.61 is the fifth best in the Premier League and some way above Callum Wilson (6.81), who sits second in the Newcastle squad.

Saint-Maximin has been involved in five of their eight league goals this term, scoring against Southampton and West Ham, and laying on three assists. Only three other players have more this season.

His form means he's currently one of the most dangerous attackers in the Premier League, but Kennedy reckons that he must produce consistent performances to attract attention from elsewhere.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "When you watch him this season, you look at him and say, I don't understand how teams aren't looking at him.

"But I think it's probably that consistency thing. You've seen players like that at Newcastle before – Yohan Cabaye was one example when he went to PSG, it didn't work out for him. Things you're forgiven at Newcastle United, you don't get away with at a big club at the highest level."

What does the future hold for Saint-Maximin?

Prior to the recent takeover being confirmed, the 24-year-old would have surely been sold in the next couple of windows.

However, with the new owners already looking to spend big to try and make Newcastle European and even title contenders once again, surely Saint-Maximin isn't likely to be going anywhere in the near future.

He has several years remaining on the contract he signed last October, which means it would take an enormous bid to prize him away from St James' Park. And with the calibre of names already being linked to Newcastle following last Thursday's news, the Frenchman would be crazy to look elsewhere.
