Newcastle United are ready submit bids to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

Eddie Howe has called for swift action in the transfer market as the Magpies prepare to return to the Champions League next season. Despite the imminent exit of sporting director Paul Mitchell, Newcastle are pushing ahead with recruitment plans.

A centre-back and right-winger have long been areas to target and Newcastle have identified Premier League proven talent. Newcastle failed with a bid to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace last summer but are ready to return for the England defender.

Mbeumo is also a player Newcastle like and the club are keen to beat competition from Manchester United to the winger.

With the latter focused on a deal for Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, The Telegraph are reporting that Newcastle are hoping to get in front in the race for the 20-goal winger.

Both Guehi and Mbeumo will enter the final 12 months of their respective contracts this summer. Brentford value the latter at around £50m, while Guehi could be attained for a similar fee. Crystal Palace rejected offers of around £70m for the 24-year-old across the last two transfer windows but may reluctantly have to sell their captain this summer.

On the club’s transfer business, Howe said recently: “Speed is key for us. I’ve reiterated that many times internally. Speed is key because we have to be dynamic, we have to be ready to conclude things very, very quickly because good players don’t hang around for long.

“That’s always been my thought and my message on recruitment because you can have a period where you think you’ve got time, but then you can look around very quickly and realise that that time has elapsed and you have missed opportunities that you won’t get again.

“That’s what we’ll be trying, but obviously the reality of that is it’s not always in your hands. But we’ll be doing our best to do things early.”
