Newcastle United recently suffered a major blow after Callum Wilson picked another hamstring injury, ruling him out for the next two months.
The Athletic’s Chris Waugh says the experienced striker is now almost certain to remain on Tyneside beyond January,
However, it is reportedly unclear whether the club will trigger the one-year extension in his contract, which will expire in June next year.
Despite Wilson’s injury, Newcastle’s winter transfer plans remain largely unaltered, with a right-sided attacker and centre-half their main priorities.
The 32-year-old missed the start of the season due to a combination of back and hamstring issues.
He battled back to feature in the team’s last four matches from the bench, but the latest injury means he will now be sidelined for around eight weeks.
Wilson joined Newcastle for around £20 million in 2020.
He established himself as a key member of the first team, racking up 48 goals in 112 appearances in all competitions.
The centre-forward is highly rated for his goalscoring prowess, but he has become very injury-prone,
