For many weeks now, Arsenal have reportedly been pursuing a deal to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, but Newcastle-based journalists have consistently repeated that the two clubs haven’t been in direct contact with each other.
The Gunners have seemingly been doing most of the groundwork for a move through intermediaries, but Newcastle sources have been insistent that the two clubs haven’t been speaking directly.
That has finally now changed, with Luke Edwards reporting that Arsenal have opened direct talks with Newcastle.
Edwards adds that whilst Bruno should arrive at the club’s training camp later today, the expectation is that he’ll then repeat his desire to leave the club.

This echoes a report from Sunday night, in which Gary Stonehouse claimed Bruno was planning to use a meeting with Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson and new manager Matthias Jaissle to inform them of his wish to join the Gunners.
Bruno was initially meant to link up with Newcastle on Friday, then on Sunday night, but instead he’ll arrive from Brazil on Monday.

Guimaraes made 41 appearances for Newcastle last season, scoring nine goals and assisting a further eight despite playing a relatively defensive midfield role.
But with Newcastle finishing 12th in the league and missing out on any form of European football, whilst Arsenal won the league and reached the Champions League final, it’s not hard to see why the 28-year-old is now keen on a transfer.
