Newcastle and England defender Lewis Hall has hailed the impact boss Eddie Howe has had on his development.

Howe brought Hall to Newcastle in a permanent deal in 2024, following an initial loan spell at the club from Chelsea.

The 21-year-old is back in the England set-up this month as part of the Under-21 squad, following a nightmare spell with injury which Hall labelled the worst time of his young career.

And Hall thanked Howe for the backing he has given him during his time at the club.

“Yeah, he’s been a massive part of my career so far,” Hall said.

“I think I’ve said it a lot in previous interviews and stuff, that he’s definitely one of the most important managers I’ve had in terms of my development.

“Obviously, when I was at Chelsea, I worked under a lot of top managers at the time, but I’d say Eddie’s a manager that has taken a lot of stuff from my game and improved it more than I ever thought he could do at this stage in my career, if I’m honest.

“The confidence and belief that he’s shown in me, especially in the last year or two. I guess at the time, it was quite a big price tag for what I’d done in my career so far. For him to have that much confidence in me to be the player that he believes I can be, I’m obviously really grateful for him for that.”

Hall will be part of the squad which takes on the Republic of Ireland U21s on Friday night.
