Newcastle United, boosted by the sales of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham for 116 million euros and Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal for 87 million, are weighing a move for Nico González, who joined Manchester City last season.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the former Valencia midfielder is among their favoured options, offering the tactical discipline of a six and the ball use of an eight.
His place at City looks uncertain under Enzo Maresca, with others ahead of him in the Community Shield pecking order.
Newcastle have contacted City to discuss a deal, but talks are far from an agreement and no figures have surfaced. Any move could be expensive, as City paid 52 million euros and are aware of Newcastle’s recent income.
Nico has said publicly he would like to stay at the Etihad. Even so, a departure remains possible, with a leading role likely at Newcastle while he currently starts as a substitute at City, though he can still fight for a place.
