Newcastle United And Coventry City Target Frozen Out At AC Milan | OneFootball

Newcastle United and Coventry City target Fikayo Tomori has been frozen out at AC Milan, with the Rossoneri deciding he does not feature in their plans for the season.

The England international is entering the final year of his contract with AC Milan, having joined from Chelsea in 2021 after the Italian club exercised their option to sign him for £25m.

Tomori has since surpassed 200 appearances for the Rossoneri, but his long-standing association with the club now appears to be approaching its conclusion.

With no contract extension on the horizon, a departure from San Siro looks increasingly likely, with Ruben Amorim seemingly not viewing the defender as part of his plans and Milan keen to cash in while they can.

According to Italian journalist Peppe Di Stefano (via Gianluca Di Marzio), the 28-year-old is not part of the club’s technical project, being frozen out.

Tomori is not the only player facing an uncertain future, with Youssouf Fofana, David Odogu and Christopher Nkunku also looking unlikely to remain with the Rossoneri.

The former Chelsea defender has long been linked with a return to the Premier League and this summer is no different, with several clubs understood to be weighing up a move, including Newcastle United, who evaluated a deal last month.

Newcastle are looking to add a commanding presence to their central defence, with Dan Burn and Fabian Schar both well into their 30s, and view the 28-year-old as a strong fit, while Coventry City are also interested, with Frank Lampard well aware of the defender’s qualities.

Aurele Amenda has already arrived at Coventry and adding Tomori to their ranks would provide another significant boost as they prepare for their first season back in the Premier League.

The central defender is also understood to favour a return to England, with his decision to reject a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer further strengthening that possibility.

It remains to be seen whether either Newcastle or Coventry City will step forward with a formal bid, with the clock ticking on the transfer window and Tomori’s next destination still up in the air.

Now all eyes are on what happens with Tomori and how quickly AC Milan can move him on having decided he is surplus to requirements, which could even weaken their desire to demand a good price for his services.
