In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Newcastle United are big admirers of former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer. It has been stated that the Magpies are in the running to land the English centre-forward in this transfer window.
Calvert-Lewin struggled to be consistent for the Toffees in the previous campaign but managed to put in a few impressive displays as the focal point of their attack. The English forward found the back of the net three times and earned two assists in 26 matches for Everton last season across all competitions.
The 28-year-old caught the eye at times in the final third by averaging 2.8 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He kept 38% of his attempts on target. However, Calvert-Lewin has to find a way to improve his ball distribution up top, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 62.6% in the top tier of English football (stats via fbref.com).
Calvert-Lewin is a free agent at the moment which makes him an affordable option for Newcastle to consider in this summer transfer period.

Calvert-Lewin excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. Standing at 1.89m, Calvert-Lewin can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels in the opposition half.
However, the English talent has to overcome his injury problems and find some consistency if he wants to be a success story at a club like Newcastle United.
Calvert-Lewin would add more firepower to Eddie Howe’s frontline. He could even serve as a good, rotational piece in Newcastle‘s match-day squad next season.
At 28, Calvert-Lewin is playing in his prime which makes him a decent choice for the Magpies to consider in this summer transfer window. However, he is far from a prolific forward and would struggle to earn regular playing minutes at St. James’ Park. Still, Calvert-Lewin would serve as an ideal back-up to Alexander Isak at the Tyneside club.
