Newcastle United treat every key player as if they were gold. The club know exactly what they have in Tino Livramento. At 22, the right-back has already shown character, quality and consistency. The Magpies do not want to repeat past mistakes and are shielding themselves from possible assaults by giants.
Maintaining a solid block is vital to sustaining their European ambitions. Eddie Howe values Livramento as one of his essential players. The summer is expected to be hectic because others see the young Englishman as an ideal reinforcement for their defence. The club are standing firm and not giving ground easily.

As revealed by Pete O’Rourke on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Manchester City are preparing to launch all their artillery for Livramento. The interest has been there for some time, but now the intention is concrete. The City board has him high on their list to strengthen the right side. However, O’Rourke himself clarified that the deal is not looking easy. Newcastle United will not budge unless an astronomical sum is offered. Pep Guardiola’s club will have to measure each step carefully. The player would fit into their system, but breaking down the wall at St James’ Park will be difficult.
He said: “It’s a difficult deal to do for City. It’s no surprise he is pretty high up on Man City’s wanted list for right-back. I don’t think Newcastle will be entertaining any offers for him unless it’s astronomical money. Eddie Howe will be doing everything he can to keep hold of Livramento. They don’t want to lose any of their best players, and Livramento is definitely one of those.”
To break this deadlock, Manchester City would have to offer more than money. The figure would have to be close to exaggeration, and even then, Newcastle could reject it if they feel that losing Livramento would destabilise their project. In addition, the player would have to show real interest in a change of scenery. Today, there are no signs of discontent or a desire to leave.
The rapport with Howe seems strong. City could tempt him with sporting promises, titles and prominence in the Premier League. But internal competition at Etihad is always fierce. The Magpies’ sporting plan also scores points. They are growing, investing and getting closer and closer to the elite. If City want to close this deal, they will have to move quickly, offer a convincing project and an amount that is impossible to refuse. We think it will be difficult for Newcastle to let him go. The Magpies project cannot afford to weaken their defence just when they are aiming high. The pressure from Guardiola could be intense, but the door seems more closed than open.
