Newcastle United women’s captain Amber-Keegan Stobbs has confirmed her departure from the Magpies this week with an emotional post on social media.

In what was a pretty surprising turn of events, Newcastle United manager Becky Langley decided to release Amber-Keegan Stobbs at the beginning of June.

The Newcastle United captain made 21 appearances for the club last year and after just over two season’s at the club Stobbs seemed to have found a new home.

However with the Magpies failing to record back to back to back promotions last year in a disappointing campaign, despite setting record attendance in WSL2, it was confirmed that Stobbs would be released by the club ahead of next year.

Newcastle finished in 5th place last year but they weren’t anywhere near promotion to the WSL with league winners London City nine points clear at the top.

Leaving hurts for Newcastle fan Amber-Keegan Stobbs

Although she grew up in London, Stobbs was a die hard Newcastle fan growing up and she was even named after Geordie legend Kevin Keegan.

Being a fan of the club that released her will only make the departure more painful for 32-year-old Stobbs, who is still yet to find a new team following her departure from Tyneside.

In an emotional social media post, Stobbs addressed the fanbase: “Geordies 🖤🤍

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out after hearing the news, I’ve been blown away by the response and kind words.

“I have loved the journey and my time at Newcastle United and, although it has come to an end sooner than I expected, it’s a privilege to have played for my childhood club.

“I leave knowing that I gave absolutely everything I could both on and off the pitch for the fans and the club… I fell more deeply in love with this club, this city and that dream. It’s been an absolute pleasure and I thank you all so much.”

Stobbs’ career still hangs in the balance ahead of the 2024-25 season and whether or not the former Newcastle captain will still be playing in England is up for debate.
