Sacha Boey could finally secure a route into English Premier League football during the January transfer window. This possibility, according to a recent report from journalist Graeme Bailey, will kick off a significant struggle between Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

Sacha Boey update:

Both clubs battle for the 25-year-old Bayern Munich right-back. The French full-back is apparently available for departure from the Bavarian giants. He desires regular playing time elsewhere. This is a completely normal ambition for a footballer in his prime.

Previously, several prominent European clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United showed interest in Boey. However, he chose to sign for Bayern Munich in January 2024 instead. This move has not brought the desired regularity, unfortunately.

The Frenchman has participated in only 37 appearances across all competitions during his two years with the Bundesliga side. He often started matches from the bench. Management, including current boss Vincent Kompany, primarily views Boey as a squad player.

So, Bayern Munich are now actively prepared to sanction his exit next month due to this situation. Indeed, the German club would even consider a loan agreement. This fact has predictably drawn attention from multiple Premier League teams.

Crystal Palace show genuine enthusiasm for acquiring Boey. Manager Oliver Glasner urgently seeks immediate defensive reinforcements in the right-back position. Their current predicament results from Daniel Munoz undergoing knee surgery.

This injury regrettably sidelines the Colombian for approximately two months. Glasner does not want to depend solely on Nathaniel Clyne to fill such an important gap in the defensive line. Should they fail to secure Boey, the Eagles have already identified Joao Mario as a potential substitute option.

Nevertheless, the above report indicates that Crystal Palace have formally presented their opening offer to the French defender. This might give them an immediate advantage in these unfolding negotiations. Meanwhile, Newcastle United have just recently entered the contest for Boey. Eddie Howe desperately requires new players for his full-back positions.

This is especially true given the current injury crisis hurting the squad. Dan Burn suffered a fractured rib and a punctured lung recently. Furthermore, Emil Krafth struggles continuously with fitness. This forces the manager to deploy Valentino Livramento, primarily a right-back, on the left side of the defence.

Therefore, the Magpies need a new right-back. This is amidst continuing links to Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, and now including Boey. This makes the Bayern Munich player a perfectly viable choice. The Magpies possess the distinct advantage of offering Boey Champions League football. This major attraction might help them overcome Crystal Palace in this transfer skirmish.

Do Newcastle United need him?

The Magpies absolutely need Sacha Boey, considering their current defensive issues at right-back with injuries and players playing out of position. Acquiring an experienced player, even one seeking more minutes, provides necessary cover and genuine competition for Valentino Livramento, significantly strengthening their options as they compete across multiple competitions.
