Newcastle United have confirmed Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach, replacing Eddie Howe, with the appointment made on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old German steps in after Howe suddenly chose to depart despite an initial agreement to remain in charge. Jaissle has signed a long-term deal to the end of the 2029/30 season.

He had been linked with several European clubs since leaving RB Salzburg for Al-Ahli. He now ends his unexpected spell in Saudi Arabia after two Asian Champions League triumphs.
