Daily Mail reports that Newcastle United could re-enter the race for 1. FC Köln prodigy Said El Mala this summer. He is a Germany under-21 international.

The Magpies are said to have made enquiries months ago, but the family turned them down at the time. His representatives had indicated Brighton & Hove Albion looked the likeliest move, only for that option to collapse.

Newcastle have since banked €80 million from Anthony Gordon’s sale to FC Barcelona, and Köln’s €50 million valuation would fit their budget.

Should he arrive, El Mala would link up with compatriots Nick Woltemade and Malick Thiaw in Eddie Howe’s squad. Newcastle are also considering Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo.

After a failed Brentford switch, El Mala has been linked with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, though there are no serious leads at present.
