Newcastle United have been dealt a major blow ahead of their Premier League game against AFC Bournemouth at St James’ Park today.

Newcastle attacker Anthony Gordon has missed the game due to an injury, according to the Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope.

The Magpies star started against Crystal Palace last time out and manager Eddie Howe has to come up with a solution as he looks to inspire his side to winning ways following back-to-back league defeats heading into today’s game.

However, Newcastle have been handed a boost as Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes could be selected to feature after being spotted in the stadium.

The 28-year-old has not played for the Toons since February following an injury against Tottenham Hotspur.

Guimaraes has missed the last 12 games across all competitions for Newcastle and having him available for selection today would be huge.

The Magpies are playing against a Bournemouth side without a defeat in their last 11 league matches and will have to be on top of their game to pick up a positive result.

They are currently 14th in the table, ten points off the last Champions League spot, and picking up some impressive results in their remaining six games could see them clinch qualification for European football.

Missing out on the elite European competition could see them lose Gordon at the end of the season, with the England international reportedly keen on playing for a club that regularly feature in the Champions League and challenge for major trophies.

Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali could also seek to move on if Newcastle finish outside the positions that guarantee continental football, and they could do with all three points against the Cherries.
