Newcastle United defender Richardson signs first professional deal | OneFootball

Newcastle United defender Abbie Richardson has signed her first professional contract with the club.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Magpies earlier today.

The 18-year-old is the first-ever graduate of the Newcastle United academy to sign professional terms with the club.

Richardson is yet to make her senior debut for The Magpies but she was included in the first team squad on a couple of occasions last season. The player has been a regular for Newcastle United’s Under-21 side.

After signing her first professional terms with the Tynesiders, Richardson said “It’s an unreal feeling. Growing up as a Newcastle fan, it means so much especially for my family who have been fans their whole lives.

“Tanya [Oxtoby] has been so supportive, she has helped me to develop and adapt my position as well, she has been really good. I have improved a lot being around the first team.”

Richardson is now likely to continue her development with Newcastle United’s Under-21s in the short-term with a view to pushing for further involvement in the first team. The player will be hoping to make her senior debut for the club at some point throughout this season.
