Newcastle United are reported to be stepping up their push to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, previously linked with Sunderland. According to TeamTalk, they are more likely to agree a deal worth £55m to £64m after intensifying their pursuit in recent weeks.

The 22-year-old has stood out in Ligue 1 with Metz and Monaco, drawing interest across Europe. Sunderland asked Monaco about a surprise move earlier this season as they explored pairing him with Senegal team-mate Habib Diarra at the Stadium of Light.

Clubs in Spain and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen, but Newcastle are viewed in the report as a more viable stepping stone, particularly if Sandro Tonali leaves in the summer. The Italy midfielder has been linked with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks.

Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea have also been mentioned as possible suitors for Camara. Speculation around a switch to Wearside has eased in recent months.

The report adds that a firm move could come in the summer window.
