Spurs star Lucas Bergvall has been forced to withdraw from the Sweden squad due to concussion issues, with Graham Potter then giving a late call to Emil Krafth.
The Newcastle United defender is expected to arrive in Geneva today, ahead of Sweden facing Switzerland on Saturday.
Emil Krafth joining up with Anthony Elanga and the rest of his international teammates.
This Graham Potter decision sparked some confusion, with the Newcastle and Spurs players usually in very different roles.
However, Graham Potter and the Sweden camp have now cleared up that confusion.
The explanation is that Potter feels he has plenty of other midfield options despite Bergvall’s withdrawal.
However, Newcastle United’s Emil Krafth getting the late call up due worries about Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson’s fitness, the Leeds player able to play in both full-back positions.
This is the November 2025 international schedule for Newcastle United players:
Sandro Tonali playing the full match in this World Cup group qualifier and though it took until the 88th minute for the away side to score, they fully deserved the eventual 2-0 win. Tonali the key figure in midfield as a much changed and weakened Italy side dominated throughout (28 v 3 on shots, 13 v 1 corners, 65 v 3 player touches of the ball in the opposition box) but struggled to convert that into goals.
