In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Diego Montalvan has revealed that Newcastle United are set to complete the capture of Rodrigo Vilca from Peruvian side Deportivo Municipal. The player is en route to his medical and will pen a four-year contract at St. James’ Park this summer. The Daily Mail has also backed the claim and has also mentioned that the Peruvian youngster would cost the Magpies around £250,000 with the midfielder expected to link up with Newcastle’s Under-23 side soon.

Vilca’s Incredible Rise In Peruvian Football

The Lima-born talent has made a name for himself back in his homeland after he was promoted from Deportivo Municipal II to their senior side back in 2018. The 21-year-old featured in 16 matches in the Liga 1 Apertura, finding the back of the net on three occasions while securing three assists for his boyhood club in the process.

Vilca has established himself as one of Peruvian football’s brightest prospects and has the potential to become a class act in midfield in the years to come. At 21, he has shown a great knack for scoring and creating goals in the opposition half. Vilca is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a left-winger if required.

However, the talented youngster might struggle to cope with the physical nature and high intensity of football in England. Standing at 1.75m, Vilca can be a fragile presence, so he needs to work on improving his upper-body strength if he intends to make a positive impact at Newcastle in the coming seasons.

What Are The Peruvian Whizkid’s Strengths And Weaknesses?

Vilca has taken great strides towards improving himself since breaking out as a first-team starter for Deportivo Municipal. At such a young age, he has already received an international call-up from the Peruvian national team.

The South American sensation has got the technical qualities to succeed in the number ten position. Vilca has even developed a habit of scoring or assisting his fair share of goals from midfield. Furthermore, he is a decent passer of the ball but lacks the strength to overpower the opposition at the centre of the park.

Is Vilca A Prospect For The Future?

Vilca could prove to be a decent, long-term acquisition for the Magpies as his ceiling is sky-high. However, he would need time to settle into life in England, so Steve Bruce needs to be patient with his development if he wants to get the best out of the Peruvian prospect in the future.

With all things considered, there is no doubt that Vilca is a star in the making and would be a talent to look out for in the coming years. At the same time, the Toon Army should curb their enthusiasm about their new arrival as he is currently not good enough to break into Newcastle’s first-team during this new Premier League campaign.
