A report from journalist Mark Brus this January suggests Manchester City are ready to move on from Norwegian talent Oscar Bobb. They want a fee of around £20m. The Premier League giants have already put the 22-year-old’s name out there.

Newcastle United are now at the front of the pack. While Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla are watching him too, the Magpies really want to keep the winger in England. This move comes as City chase Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, a deal that effectively ends Bobb’s chances of starting at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola gave the Norway winger a few chances early in the 2025/26 season. Still, the youngster couldn’t grab a permanent spot. He didn’t score once in 15 games. Now, City bosses think a permanent sale is the best move for everyone.

Eddie Howe’s team are looking for new attackers right now. They see Bobb as a smart, high-value signing who fits their style. No official bid is on the table yet, but things could move fast. City need to clear space before Semenyo arrives.

Why Eddie Howe needs Oscar Bobb?

Newcastle’s interest in Bobb comes down to a big hole on their right side. Eddie Howe likes a 4-3-3 setup. He needs wingers who can cut inside and cause trouble in the middle.

Even though they spent big on Anthony Elanga last summer, they still don’t have a natural, left-footed right-winger. Bobb is just what they need. He stays low to the ground and keeps the ball tight, which is exactly the kind of technical skill Howe loves.

On the pitch, Howe could have Bobb drift inside from the right wing. This would give Tino Livramento plenty of space to run into. Bobb isn’t like old-school wingers who stay stuck to the touchline. He likes to play in the gaps between the defenders.

That movement would let Newcastle’s midfielders push further up the pitch. This creates the extra numbers that make Howe’s high-press work. Plus, for just £20m, Bobb is a low-risk move with massive potential. He gives Newcastle a creative spark to break down the deep-sitting teams that have frustrated them all season.
