Club chief David Hopkinson has gone public with an update about a brand new Newcastle United stadium
The Newcastle United CEO speaking to fans at an event organised by the club at STACK on Monday night.
With supporters waiting to hear what will happen, a much increased capacity St James’ Park or a brand new Newcastle United stadium on a new site close to SJP, Hopkinson’s public update basically saying…there is no update.
The Newcastle United CEO stating that nothing has been decided yet, that he and the club’s owners don’t know what is going to happen.
This of course also means that any questions about a timeline are totally redundant.
An announcement on what is going to happen with the Newcastle United stadium has been promised by the club a number of times, only to be then postponed.
The wait goes on.
Newcastle United CEO David Hopkinson asked; “What is happening with a new stadium?”
“I don’t know.
“And we aren’t ready to know that yet.
“I am not going to lie to you.
“We need to look at other opportunities [with St James’ Park] whether renovated or reimagined.
“What is clear is that to be at the top, we need to build revenues and we need world class facilities to build those revenues.
“But we have not made that decision yet.
“We are working on it every day.
“It is (a decision)…not today, or even next week either.
“But that does not mean we are not working on this furiously.
“There is complexity around financing, around project planning.
“It will be the most ambitious project this club has ever taken on.
“We are not ready for grand designs or great announcements, it is counter productive to the whole project to be ahead of ourselves.
