Newcastle United to be part of a New World Order – Takeover 4th year anniversary incoming

We are only weeks away from the fourth anniversary of the Newcastle United takeover.

I relate this moment to the arrival of the baby Jesus.

I know that these days this may result in armed police visiting my allotment, but I shall still refer to it as BS (before Saudis) and AA (after Ashley)

It may only be just over 200 weeks ago since BS became AA, so it can be hard to remember exactly what your thoughts were back then.

Unless you happened to write for The Mag that is.

There is no hiding from the bloody internet. It’s out there forever, warts and all.

During the later BS years I really was past caring. I had literally given up on us being relevant as a club again during my lifetime. Then along comes a bunch of people from the Middle East and the Geordie world shifts on its axis.

In a very short space of time they help bring us Wembley, Champions League, an actual trophy and then the Champions League again.

They have been the answer to all my hopes and dreams. I could not have asked for more. I was in total support of the new guys.

Except that’s not quite true.

A few months before the Newcastle United takeover, you may remember that news broke about “the big six” being part of a European Super League.

To say I was annoyed about this bunch of entitled gits thinking they could walk away with all the money and somehow stay in the Premier League is a huge understatement.

Like saying the return of Alexander Isak to St James Park will be a bit of a tempestuous affair.

So to save you the bother of looking it up, here is the gist of that article. I think my thoughts were pretty clear…

“They cannot be allowed to treat the other clubs with contempt, thinking that we have to go along with what they want, because they think that without them, the Premier League is nothing.

If we got shot of these six, then obviously TV deals will plummet and players wages will do the same, but is that a bad thing?

I for one would rather be playing Forest in a post “big six” league, than be bought by the Saudis and be part of a European Super League.”

Why do I raise this? Well two reasons.

If and when the idea comes up again, this time Newcastle United will be invited.

After all, we now have the membership fee in the bank. And of course in a European Super League, we would actually be allowed to spend our cash.

Meaning that we could actually compete with all the big boys.

And secondly, would I now support it?

Well despite bloody PSR, despite having to still accept our players being tapped up because we can’t pay the going rate, I still feel the same as I did back then.

I would rather we had 10 more years like the last four, than see us play in a league where games are taken to America, Australia and China for the global audience.

Can you imagine Newcastle v Liverpool being moved to Newcastle New South Wales, kick off 0600 hrs?

The recent Club World Cup and the plans of La Liga and Serie A clubs to take games abroad this season, tells me that’s the future for the mega clubs.

The question is, would you prefer to be a mega club, or would it be better to be left behind and play the likes of Villa and Everton (and Sunderland now and again)

If I was a betting man, I think Newcastle United will be part of a New World Order. Old beggars like me may struggle with that, but I’m the past, not the future.
