The Magpies announced the news via a post on their official club website yesterday.
The fixture was initially set to be played out at Gateshead International Stadium, however, the decision has been made to move the game to Newcastle United’s traditional St. James’ Park home, allowing more fans to attend.
Last season’s fixture was also played at St. James’ Park. The game attracted a Barclays WSL2 all-time record crowd of 38,502. Newcastle United won the match 1-0 thanks to Shania Hayles’ second half goal.
After learning that this season’s Tyne-Wear derby fixture will be staged at St. James’ Park, Newcastle United head coach Becky Langley said “We can’t wait to return to St. James’ Park as it’s always a such a special occasion. We have already made many memories here and aim to create even more history, both on the pitch and in the stands.
“The noise that the Geordies created last season was unforgettable. We broke the league’s attendance record, and we want to go even bigger this time.
“We all know that this will be a fiercely competitive game, with local pride at stake, and the supporters can give us that extra edge.”
Newcastle United’s Barclays WSL2 fixture against Sunderland takes place on Sunday 16 November 2025.
