Arsenal will be looking to break their St. James’ Park curse on Sunday when they travel to face a defensively formidable Newcastle United side.
The Gunners have lost their last three visits to Tyneside without scoring a goal. They face a Newcastle team, however, that has struggled for form and goals in the Premier League this season, winning just one of their last seven games.
Eddie Howe has been handed a major boost with the return of both Anthony Gordon from suspension and Sven Botman from injury. However, the manager is still without key players Fabian Schär, Yoane Wissa, and Jacob Ramsey.
Mikel Arteta is hopeful of welcoming back his captain, Martin Ødegaard, for the trip to Newcastle, while Bukayo Saka has also been passed fit to play. The Gunners will, however, be without the injured Noni Madueke, who joins Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz on the sidelines.
The Magpies have been defined by their defensive strength, keeping four clean sheets in five league games, the joint-most in the division. Their overall form is a concern, though, with just one win in their last seven Premier League matches. A midweek cup win over Bradford, however, will have boosted confidence in attack.
The Gunners sit second in the table and have bounced back from their only league defeat of the season with consecutive victories. Their away form has been strong, with just one loss on the road in their last 16 Premier League games.
Newcastle United predicted XI: Pope; Trippier, Botman, Burn, Livramento; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Elanga, Woltemade, Gordon
Arsenal predicted XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Gyokeres, Eze
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League in the UK. Coverage begins at 4:00 pm BST.
