Match preview

Newcastle dug deep to beat Fulham 2-1 in the quarter-finals, booking a place in the last four for the second consecutive season.

Yoane Wissa opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but Sasa Lukic restored parity for the visitors. Lewis Miley’s 91st-minute strike sealed the victory for Newcastle.

Man Cityproduced a more convincing display against Brentford, emerging as 2-0 winners.

Rayan Cherki gave them the lead after the half-hour mark, before Savinho sealed the victory in the second half.

The two sides head into this game off a victory in the FA Cup third round. Newcastle beat Bournemouth 7-6 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in normal time, while City thrashed Exeter City 10-1.

Manager Eddie Howe has fared poorly against Pep Guardiola, winning just two of their previous 19 meetings.

However, the Newcastle boss will be optimistic ahead of this tie, having beaten City last time out.
