Newcastle United are preparing for the possibility of losing Alexander Isak in the summer and have identified Ipswich Town star Liam Delap, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Lille forward Jonathan David as potential targets, according to the Daily Mail.

The Magpies want to hold on to Isak beyond this summer, but they are preparing for the worst and have been keeping tabs on the aforementioned trio should they need to replace the Sweden international.

Ipswich are battling relegation and Delap will not be short of suitors should they go down following a return of ten goals in 26 Premier League games, and Newcastle are one of the clubs monitoring his situation.

The 22-year-old is also on the radar of Chelsea and Manchester United, but he would prefer to go where he is guaranteed regular playing time, and such an opportunity could be available at the St James’ Park club if Isak leaves.

Newcastle scouting chief Steve Nickson has watched David and landing him will be huge for their finances as he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

However, pipping competition to the services of the Canadian international could prove tricky for the Magpies as he has notched 21 goals in 38 games across all competitions this term.

The 25-year-old has several bigwigs keeping tabs on him, and Newcastle may need to qualify for the Champions League to have any chance of signing him.

Sesko has had admirers at the club for a while, and they remain keen after he weighed in with 17 goals and five assists in 34 games so far in 2024-25.

The 21-year-old Slovenian is also on the radar of Arsenal and several other clubs, and it could take a lot for Newcastle to snap him up.

The Toons want to keep Isak for as long as possible and talks over a new contract will be revisited in the summer, but they could lose him if they fail to finish in the top-four, and they are putting contingency plans in place.
