City's Next Gen began life in the Women’s Professional Girls Academy (PGA) Under-21 division with a convincing 8-3 win over Manchester United.
Officially launched on Monday 25 August, and hat-tricks apiece from Freya Hirons and Jane Oboavwoduo set the Blues on our way to victory at Carrington.
Further strikes from Rachel Adedini and Samira Shikhshabekova set the seal on a memorable triumph over our cross-city rivals.
Head Coach Izzy Christiansen said of the result: “It’s always nice to start a season with a win.
“The players have worked really hard in pre-season so it’s great for them to get a positive result from the game.
“The Next Gen team is new this season and we’re building something really special. I’m really excited to see what’s to come from them.”
City face Newcastle United in our next PGA assignment, welcoming them to the City Football Academy on Wednesday 3 September.
The first phase of the PGA U21 League is split into northern and southern sections, with nine matches played in a ten-team league between August and December.
Once each of those fixtures have been played, the top four sides in both the northern and southern sections will be placed into national Group 1.
The remaining teams from both the northern and southern sections who missed out on the respective top fours will then be put into Group 2.
Once the second phase nationalised groups have been decided, the teams will play each other twice to determine who finishes at each division’s summit.
