Next Tottenham manager: Six options to replace Igor Tudor | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur are searching for another manager to steer them away from the growing threat of Premier League relegation after sacking Igor Tudor.

The Croatian was a left-field appointment, with no Premier League experience, and lasted just seven games in charge after replacing Thomas Frank last month.

Spurs are winless in the Premier League this year and were plunged deeper into crisis after a dismal 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in a relegation battle last week.

Whoever comes in next will need to hit the ground running, with seven games of the season remaining and Tottenham just one point above the relegation zone.

They do not play again until Sunday 12 April, with the trip to Sunderland followed by a home match against Brighton the following week. But who will the club turn to to take charge of this relegation battle?

Tottenham’s most successful modern-day manager is preparing to lead co-hosts the United States into the World Cup this summer, but could the Argentine be convinced to rescue his beloved Spurs over the final seven games of the season?

Pochettino would be a popular appointment and would unite the club in a time of crisis - Spurs fans continue to sing his name, six years on from his departure from club. The 54-year-old wants to return to club management following the World Cup, specifically stating that he wants to return to the Premier League at some point in the future.

Tottenham had also looked at Pochettino after sacking Thomas Frank in February and he was identified as their first-choice. But the World Cup complicated matters, forcing Spurs to turn to an emergency option in Tudor. And those complications remain now, with the USA thrashed 5-2 by Belgium in a pre-World Cup friendly on Saturday.

The Independent has previously reported that Tottenham previously considered turning to Dyche, after identifying the former Burnley and Everton boss as one of the few remaining “survival specialists” out there with recent Premier League experience. Dyche, however, was sacked by Nottingham Forest in February after just four months and 17 matches, having failed to turn their fortunes around.

Dyche was spotted in a north London pub on Friday evening, enjoying a pint of Guinness, before he quashed rumours that he was taking over from Igor Tudor. “I was in the pub just up the way near my place I’ve got down here and this guy goes, ‘ah, you’re meant to be in talks with Spurs tonight?’ And I say, ‘I’m sat next to you having a pint of Guinness, so it’s unlikely - unless you work for Spurs!’”

The former Brighton boss has been linked with Tottenham previously and is available after walking out on Marseille in February. But the Italian is unlikely to want to take charge of Tottenham at this stage of the season, given their position, and is instead being sounded out ahead of the summer.

However, with speculation over De Zerbi swirling, three Tottenham fan groups released statements urging the club to reconsider any potential appointment over his past backing of former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood during his time at Marseille.

Harry Redknapp

Undoubtedly a nostalgic, even romantic, option - and one of the few available contenders who really ‘gets the club’ - but is this really what Tottenham need right now? The 79-year-old has been retired since 2017 and his last Premier League job was over a decade ago. But Redknapp is available, now Cheltenham is over, and he is keen, as he told anyone who asked him at the Festival: “Would I go back? Of course I would, but I doubt very much it’s going to happen”.

A more recent name to emerge into the conversation, but Spurs may now be hesitant to turn to another manager with no Premier League experience after their disastrous decision to appoint Tudor. Hutter, a 56-year-old coach from Austria, was most recently in charge of Monaco, following a poor spell in charge of Borussia Monchengladbach and a more impressive one at Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. But this would be another left-field move.

It wouldn’t be the first time the former Tottenham midfielder and assistant coach had been called into the caretaker role, having replaced Jose Mourinho in 2020/21 and Cristian Stellini in 2022/23. Since then, Mason lasted six months at West Brom and was sacked by the Championship club in January. Having worked under Ange Postecoglou, Mason, 34, would be familiar to the current squad - and could even assist any of the above options if required.
