Luan Peres was the pick of the defence, with Adonis Frías improving after the interval. Igor Vinícius struggled before half-time but recovered strongly, while Vinícius Lira defended well yet was loose in possession.

Willian Arão provided the combative shield in midfield. Thaciano’s work-rate stood out, and João Schmidt and Zé Rafael came on to tighten up.

Gabriel Bontempo impressed, heavily involved in the move for the opener and making a strong case not to be dropped. Moisés battled up front, and Rony lacked finesse on one break but contributed diligently at the back.

Miguelito was a gamble that did not pay off, his error preceded Vasco’s goal and he was replaced at the interval.

Barreal made an instant impact after the restart, shooting from distance inside two minutes, the team’s first effort of the match, and supporting Igor Vinícius diligently.

Goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão produced an early stop and could do little about the concession. Head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s changes brought control after a flat first half, sealing a deserved victory and easing the pressure.

Gabriel Menino showed bite off the bench and fashioned a late effort.
