Neymar is in buoyant mood at Santos after using social media on Friday to hail new signings. The player said in a post that he is happy even if the moves do not work, adding that he believes the fans feel the same and urging Peixão on.
He helped secure the acceptance of two of the club’s five recruits this window, midfielder Arthur and Philippe Coutinho, who has yet to sign.
Neymar called both players and made NR Sports, the company run by his father, available to support negotiations. Coutinho agreed to lower his salary demands to sign through early December, is at CT Rei Pelé for medical tests before putting pen to paper.
Arthur has already arrived and debuted wearing shirt six, with a deal also running until December this year.
All five additions, including right-back Rodinei, midfielder Lima and forward Everton Cebolinha, could feature in a potential Copa Sul-Americana semi-final if Santos get past Atlético-MG in Belo Horizonte next Wednesday, having won the first leg 2-0. In the current quarter-final phase, only Rodinei, Lima and Arthur are eligible on paperwork.
Santos are prioritising the Campeonato Brasileiro to avoid sliding back towards the bottom, though a shot at a final this season has become a target.
Neymar is recovering from a right thigh injury sustained a little over a week ago. An optimistic timeline suggests around three more weeks out, while a longer estimate points to eight weeks, meaning a return in early November.
