Neymar clashes with Santos fans after 1-1 draw at Vila Belmiro | OneFootball

Neymar said he was upset after a tense exchange with Santos supporters following the 1-1 draw with Recoleta at Vila Belmiro in the Copa Sudamericana.

According to Globo.com, a group in the stadium’s social seats challenged the No 10 and demanded respect for the club. He responded forcefully, pointing to the badge and insisting he respects Santos.

In the mixed zone he explained he replied because of the way he was addressed. He said he accepts criticism of the team’s display but will not tolerate personal attacks, adding that he believes he does more than he should and cannot be treated that way. He also said the players were as frustrated with the draw as the fans.

He added he was hurt by remarks from some supporters that referenced off the pitch issues and media coverage. He said some fans overstepped with insults, that he gives everything for the club and will not accept being treated like that.

There were protests after the match aimed at the team and the hierarchy, and president Marcelo Teixeira was targeted.

Santos are bottom of Group D in the Copa Sudamericana with one point from two rounds. Their focus now shifts to the Campeonato Brasileiro, with Fluminense visiting Vila Belmiro on Sunday at 16h, Brasília time.
