Santos beat Corinthians 1-0 at the Neo Química Arena in the 25th round of the Brasileirão. After the match, Neymar, the visitors’ captain, handed his shirt to a young home fan and praised the Fiel.

The decisive moment came on 33 minutes of the first half when Neymar’s free kick struck Hugo Souza’s left post and Christian Oliva converted the rebound for the winner.

“It was a little boy, a Corinthians fan. His headband read, ‘I am very Corinthians, but your fan’. I promised and I gave it. It is respect for the young fan and for Corinthians,” he told TV Globo.

“I have never had anything against Corinthians. I respect the club and its fans. They pushed until the end even while losing, I take my hat off to them.”

Neymar also wore a headband with the number 10, mirroring Memphis Depay of Timão. The pair became friends in France from 2017 to 2021 with PSG and Lyon. In February 2025 he again praised the Fiel after a 2-1 home defeat to Timão.

According to ge.globo, the boy and his family in the West Stand were escorted out by Military Police after abuse from nearby fans. They were taken to the outer edge of the pitch and left via an emergency exit.

This was Neymar’s 22nd meeting with Corinthians, leaving him on six wins, nine draws and seven defeats, his most-played opponent. Corinthians host Chapecoense next Sunday at 19:30 in round 26 as Fernando Diniz’s side aim to halt a three-match losing run against Cruzeiro, Coritiba and Santos.
