Neymar suggested his Brazil national team career may be over after scoring in the 2-1 defeat by Norway that confirmed their 2026 World Cup elimination at MetLife Stadium in New York.

"Tentei, tentei. Agora acabou. Comecei aqui, fechei aqui", he said on the pitch, speaking to GE TV.

The Santos and Brazil No 10 also noted he made his first appearance for the Seleção at the same venue, in a friendly against the United States.

He was called up by head coach Carlo Ancelotti only once, in the final squad for the 2026 World Cup. In the tournament he played 14 minutes in the 3-0 win over Scotland, then featured in the second half against Norway.

His strike moved him into Brazil’s top three World Cup scorers on nine, alongside Ademir Menezes, Vavá and Jairzinho. Only Pelé, on 12, and Ronaldo, on 15, remain ahead.
