Neymar, the Santos No 10, posted on social media to back Rodrygo after confirmation of a serious knee injury to the Real Madrid forward. The Santos academy graduate is not expected to play again this season and will miss the 2026 World Cup.
Rodrygo, 25, has torn the meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He was hurt against Getafe in the Spanish league, coming on nine minutes into the second half before going down in pain, yet he stayed on until the final whistle.
On Instagram, Neymar described the news as one of his saddest days, recalling the anguish and fear of suffering a similar injury. He urged Rodrygo to look after his mindset and keep loved ones close.
He also noted the support Rodrygo gave him during his own lengthy absence with a left knee injury. Neymar referenced faith, told Rodrygo to stay strong, said he was sure the forward would come back at full speed, and pledged to be by his side.
Recovery from injuries of this type typically ranges from six months to a year.
