Neymar aims to reassert himself as Santos’s matchwinner in state clássicos, starting with Sunday’s trip to Corinthians at Neo Química Arena, 16:00 Brasília time, in the Brasileirão.
This will be only his fourth clássico since returning to Vila Belmiro early last year. According to Globo.com, since his re-debut he has yet to score against Santos’ traditional rivals and the club credits him with one assist, which O Gato Mestre does not classify as a goal pass.
The move stemmed from an interception of Gabriel Paulista’s pass, the ball falling to Gabigol, who ran from halfway to score in a 1-1 draw in the first round of this year’s Brasileirão.
In his first clássico back at Neo Química Arena in February 2025, he was still readapting to Brazilian football.
In last year’s win over Palmeiras, Neymar was not directly involved in Rollheiser’s goal, but he produced bright moments, including a corner kept out by Khellven and a fine pass to the Argentine denied by Carlos Miguel.
Against Corinthians he has four goals in 21 appearances, the last on 20 June 2012. That goal came for Santos in a 1-1 draw at Pacaembu, a result that sent Corinthians to the Conmebol Libertadores final, which they went on to win.
