Neymar is due to report back to Santos on Friday for talks with president Marcelo Teixeira and the board about his future. According to Globo.com, the club remains confident he will honour his contract.

The No 10 signed through 31 December 2026, though his presence for the second half of the year has been questioned, including by his father.

After Brazil’s World Cup exit, his father used social media to urge him to continue his professional career. Neymar, 34, has not publicly indicated any plan to stop, and has been posting moments from a family holiday.

Santos granted a little over 10 days off for him to rest in the United States. Until Friday, sources are cautious and avoid confirming his inclusion in Cuca’s squad for the second half, despite confidence in the contract signed at the turn of the year.

Santos owes more than R$ 90 million to NR Sports, the family company that manages his image rights, under an instalment plan running to 2030 that includes protections against late payments. Even so, relations between Neymar’s camp and the club remain cordial.

With uncertainty still on the table, at Vila Belmiro there is conviction that things will return to normal from Friday, with his return at CT Rei Pelé for the Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil and Sul-Americana. He will miss the immediate restart, as Santos play Botafogo at the Engenhão on Thursday at 19:30 Brasília time in the Brasileirão.
