After an MRI on Monday confirmed Laurent Abergel has ruptured a cruciate ligament in his right knee, Nice could turn to Nantes midfielder Johann Lepenant.
According to L'Équipe, Nice have contacted Nantes about the 23-year-old, with early talks reportedly focused on a loan.
The injury has prompted the club to seek midfield cover within hours, with only Djibril Coulibaly, Morgan Sanson and Issiaga Camara seen as credible options at present.
Lepenant is under contract at Nantes until June 2029 and his industrious profile aligns with what coach Olivier Pantaloni wants to bridge the gap left by Abergel.
Arriving at Nantes in the summer of 2024, Lepenant made a late substitute appearance with eleven minutes remaining against Red Star on Saturday, a 0-1 defeat on the opening day of Ligue 2.
